ASTR 100 Introduction to Astronomy Week 4 Discussion
When choosing one of the four fundamental forces. I choose electromagnetic force. The electromagnetic force is responsible for most of the interactions we see in our environment today. The EMF holds electrons in their orbit around the nucleus. These electrons interact with other electrons to form electron bonds among elements and produce molecules and, eventually, visible matter. Electrons “jumping” energy levels provides us with visible light. The forces of electric attraction and repulsion of electric charges are so dominant over the other three fundamental forces that they can be considered to be negligible as determiners of atomic and molecular structure. Electrons are the “glue” that keeps atoms together to form molecules and matter.
In your own words, describe/discuss how your force interacts with matter. Be sure to note any special or unique feature of your force and specify whether your force acts over long distances or short distances. Be as detailed as needed and include where you found your information.
